"A
VOICE FOR MONTGOMERY VILLAGE RESIDENTS" |
|
Dear Friends,
I am honored to represent you on the Montgomery Village Foundation's (MVF) Board of Directors. The MVF Board of Directors are elected by residents to three year terms and oversee an annual budget of $8.7 million (with overall assets of approximately $25.7 million), and representing over 40,000 total residents living in 12,100* total residential units (*additional units planned or under construction currently) throughout Montgomery Village, MD. As a Board Member, my Committee assignments have included the Executive Committee, Personnel Committee, Recreation Committee, the Committee on the Environment (COE), the Nominating Committee (serving as Chair in 2013), the Election Committee (serving as Chair in 2012 and 2015), the Communications Committee, and the Montgomery Village 50th Anniversary Planning Committee. I also participated in the 2030 Vision Steering process, the negotiations for the former Nike Missile site redevelopment, and also currently still involved in the process for the Montgomery Village Master Plan as well as the proposed redevelopment of the Montgomery Village Golf Club site by Monument Realty. I have been serving Montgomery Village, MD as a Director since 2010. My focus continues to be on improving the future of the Village, through improvements to the existing amenities as well as increasing them (including a continued focus on the creation of an actual Town Center for the Village), improved marketing of the Village, increasing public safety, fiscal responsibility to keep assessments as low as possible for residents, private property maintenance, protecting the environment, and representing your interests in all of the discussions and decisions made by the Board.
I currently live in the Northgate community (2018-present); my family previously lived in East Village (2006-2018), and prior to that in the Christopher Court Condominiums (2005-2006), within Montgomery Village, MD. During my time living in East Village, I previously served as an elected member of the East Village Homes Corporation
(EVHC)'s Board of Directors, in Montgomery Village, for 7 years between 2009-2016, representing over 5,000 residents living in 1,389 townhouses and single-family homes, in what is the largest community within Montgomery Village, MD. The Board of Directors are elected to three year terms and oversee a budget of over $800 thousand (and overall $1.3 million in total assets). As a former EVHC Board member, my Committee assignments included the Recreation & Environment Committee, the Finance Committee, the Parking and Public Safety Committee, the Nominating Committee, the Election Committee, the Publicity/Communications Committee, the External Affairs Committee, the Information Technology Committee, the Audit/Budget/Reserves Committee and the Dispute Resolution Committee. I also have served as the Alternate MVF Representative from the EVHC Board of Directors. During my time on the EVHC Board, I was involved in the successful formation of East Village's Neighborhood Watch program, in partnership with the Montgomery County Police Department. I also participated in updating East Village's Reserve Study, implementation of the new LED lighting for East Village's street lights, improvements to the Glenbrooke Pond including the two new aeration fountains, creation of the EVHC Facebook page, improving content of the bi-weekly MV News' East Village Echo column, an environmentally conscious approach toward landscaping decisions on community property throughout East Village, replacement of aging tot-lots throughout East Village, and bringing forth East Village-related concerns to the Montgomery Village Foundation's Board of Directors. My focus on the EVHC Board was maintaining the community's common property, upkeep of private properties to help home values and quality of life, fiscal responsibility to keep assessments as low as possible, public safety, and ensuring my fellow residents have a voice in all discussions and decisions of the Board.
I am a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and the State of
Maryland; I grew up in Bethesda and moved to Montgomery Village, where I
currently live with my wife, Joyce Kraus Dyer, a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and the State
of Maryland as well. Between both of our families, we have called
Montgomery Village home for two generations, and have called Montgomery
County and the State of Maryland home for three generations. In 2010, Joy and I welcomed a third generation Montgomery Village resident and a fourth generation Montgomery County resident, with the birth of our son, Joseph. As a homeowner raising a family here, this is where our family will continue to live for generations to come, and I have a vested interest in the future of the Village.
I am currently employed as a Client Onboarding Officer, Vice President, with J.P. Morgan Private Bank, in Washington, DC; I held a prior role with J.P. Morgan Private Bank as a Business Manager (i.e. a Market-level CFO), covering the Washington, DC and Philadelphia, PA markets; overall, I have worked for J.P. Morgan Chase for over twelve years and bring experience in Finance and Customer Service. My previous work experience has included working for Long and Foster as a Realtor in their Montgomery Village/Falls Grove/King Farm offices; as a Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of Transportation for the State Government at the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), and as a Procurement Analyst for the Federal Government at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). I have also been a twice-elected official in Montgomery County to two four year terms on the Central Committee. I have received awards and recognition for my service to the community, leadership, and volunteer work; most notably by the President of the United States (The President's Call to Service Award - 2007), by the Governor of Maryland, by Students in Free Enterprise (S.I.F.E.), by the Kiwanis, and by the President of Marymount University.
I hold a Business degree from Marymount University (in Arlington, VA), and also studied Business at Montgomery College (in Rockville, MD). I am trained and certified in Mediation, ADA compliance, Limited English Proficiency
(LEP) compliance, Environmental Justice, Environmental Compliance, and have also had experience in working with and negotiating legal settlements with both the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE);
notably, I was part of the successful negotiation between the State of Maryland
and the EPA which saved the State millions in fines for violations that spanned
almost a decade and were successfully mitigated during my time at the State. My
work experience with the government has included Asset Management, Procurement,
Public Relations, Small/Minority-owned/Disadvantaged Business Assistance, Compliance and
Auditing, IT, and Emergency Planning and Homeland Security. Further, I am a
trained and certified Mediator/Facilitator, as well as a Notary Public in both Maryland and Washington, DC. I also am a trained and certified Voter Registrar with Montgomery County's Board of Elections. My current memberships include the Army and Navy Club in Washington, DC and St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Gaithersburg, MD. Notable
volunteer work has included: Instructor, Junior Achieve of Greater Washington (Montgomery Village Middle School and at the Junior Achievement Finance Park facility); Basketball and Soccer Coach, Mary of Nazareth Catholic School in Darnestown, MD; BCC Rescue Squad in Chevy Chase, MD; Red Cross; Voter Registrar for the Montgomery County Board of Elections; County Public School System;
Students In Free Enterprise (S.I.F.E.); and Marymount University. I have also
been featured in various news coverage in past by The Patch, Montgomery Village News, The Gazette, The Washington Post, NewsChannel8, NBC4 News (notably chosen as their "Morning Person" spotlighted in 2007), The Baltimore Sun, CNN Headline News, The Sentinel, the Potomac Almanac, MUToday (Marymount University), and others.
My
wife, Joy, currently a Pre-K Assistant at Mary of Nazareth Catholic School after a decade as a stay-at-home Mom to our son, Joseph, holds an Interior Design degree from Marymount University, along with an Associate's Degree from Montgomery College. Joy's work experience has included previous employment with Washington Real Estate Investment Trust (WRIT) in Rockville, MD, as a Senior Interior Designer, and other notable local architectural and development firms (Cresa Partners, Morgan Gick McBeath & Associates, and DNC Architects); she has over 15 years of work experience in her field. Joy is also NCIDQ certified (since 2009). Joy is a past President of the Home School Assocation (HSA) at Mary of Nazareth Catholic School (equivalent of a Parent Teacher Association). Joy is also a past President of the East Village Homes Corporation's (EVHC) Board of Directors in Montgomery Village and served as a Director between 2008-2015. During Joy's service as a Director, she served as Chair of EVHC's Maintenance Committee, and committee assignments included: the Executive Committee, the External Affairs Committee, the Nominating Committee, the Election Committee, the Audit/Budget/Reserves Committee, the Management Advisory (MAC) Committee, the Information Technology Committee, and the Dispute Resolution Committee. Joy also helped with the successful formation of East Village's Neighborhood Watch program in 2011, in partnership with the Montgomery County Police Department. Joy was also awarded "Outstanding Alumni" by Marymount University, for her personal and professional achievements, along with her continued support for Marymount University. Joy and I also have the honor of our prior town home in East Village being a winner
of Montgomery Village's " Most Beautiful Gardens Contest " in 2008.
I look forward
to continuing to represent you!
Please contact
me if you have any questions, and I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming
meeting, event, or in the community!
Sincerely,
Scott
R. Dyer
